The Windsor-Essex area can move into Stage 2 of Ontario’s reopening plan today.
The regions had been held back due to outbreaks among farm workers in the area.
But Premier Doug Ford said yesterday, “We are doing everything we can to help Windsor-Essex contain this virus and get back on track.”
The towns of Kingsville and Leamington will remain in Stage 1 as they host a large portion of the roughly 8,000 migrant farm workers, where outbreaks of COVID-19 have occurred.
Ford also announced a three-point plan to better support migrant workers, three of whom have died over the course of the pandemic.

If you’re a temporary foreign worker, please get tested for #COVID19. You will not lose your job, and you’ll be able to self isolate if required. We stand shoulder to shoulder with our farmers and their workers. pic.twitter.com/XYWDwEWjKC
