The Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) had the privilege to assist our local Special Olympic athletes host the first ever basketball tournament held at the Stayner Collegiate Institute in Stayner.
On March 9, 2024, teams gathered from Collingwood, Owen Sound, Thornbury, Orillia, South Simcoe and Toronto totaling over 120 amazing athletes which competed in a fun and incredible day of basketball. These athletes showed incredible athletic skills and played with great sportsmanship rivaled by none other and provided an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of friends and family.
The outcome was a huge success thanks to the efforts of all the volunteers including first responders who had the privilege of joining in to help with first aid and score keeping. The Huronia West OPP would like to extend their gratitude for being included in such an incredible event and look forward to next year being even bigger and better!
