Members of the Collingwood Detachment Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) of the OPP have arrested and charged a man in Collingwood after a drug trafficking investigation that began earlier this year.
In January 2024, the Collingwood CSCU, assisted by members of the Huronia West CSCU began gathering information on a male who was attending numerous locations in the Collingwood area and trafficking cocaine. On February 12, 2024 members of the Collingwood CSCU assisted by Huronia West CSCU and uniform members of the Collingwood and Blue Mountains OPP observed the accused in Collingwood and conducted a traffic stop and placed the accused under arrest.
Police seized 3 ounces of cocaine, nearly $7,000 in Canadian currency and other items believed to be proceeds of crime, including expensive jewellery. Collingwood CSCU was further assisted by the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) with the execution of a search warrant in Hanmer ON where evidence was seized related to this investigation. The value of all the items seized by police is estimated to be over $40,000.
A 35 year old from Toronto, has been charged with:
· Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – cocaine
· Possession of Proceeds of Property obtained by Crime – Over $5000
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood, on March 5, 2024
