Doug Ford has been re-elected Premier of Ontario.
His Progressive Conservative party won a majority government in last night’s election.
Ford said, “Tonight’s victory, it isn’t about me, it isn’t about the party. This victory belongs to every worker who knows that they deserve better. It belongs to every family who knows that they can dream bigger. But most of all, this victory belongs to each and every one of you.”
The race wasn’t even close – Ford’s PC’s won an 83 seat majority, far beyond the New Democrats who secured 31, followed by the Liberals, who won only 8 seats, failing to secure even official party status.
Both the Liberals Steven Del Duca and the NDP’s Andrea Horwath resigned from their positions after the polls closed.
Voter turnout for the provincial election was 43.03%, one of the lowest ever for an Ontario election.
