Rising rates of COVID-19 in children, adolescents and young adults have sparked concerns.
Ontario recorded a slight spike in the number of new COVID-19 cases yesterday, as well as 10 more deaths, including the province’s first fatality under the age of 20.
According to the province, the deceased patient under 20 years old was a female from Toronto who tested positive for the virus on June 20.
A spokesperson for Toronto Public Health confirmed the patient was a child, who passed away with COVID-19, but it was not the cause of death.
Toronto and Peel Region are moving onto Stage 2 of reopening today, but Windsor-Essex will remain in Stage 1 as it deals with an outbreak of the disease amongst migrant workers.
Meanwhile, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 11 new cases yesterday, including two kids under 10: one in Barrie and another in Innisfil.
