To more quickly diagnose and appropriately care for some COVID-19 patients, Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s (RVH) laboratory is now conducting in-house testing for COVID-19.
RVH is one of about a dozen Ontario hospitals approved by the Ministry of Health to conduct onsite sample testing.
Dr. Russell Price, Medical Director, Department of Laboratory Medicine says, “Using existing equipment, RVH can analyze four samples at once and get results within an hour.”
Anyone tested for COVID-19 at RVH is contacted directly by the health centre with the results – negative or positive – as soon as they are available, and provided with any necessary follow up or instructions.
